Unpacking Fear

I am beginning to think about what to pack for our trip to Kenya. Fear keeps jumping in and creating more baggage!

Contradictory words blessings and fears are in my heart as we use this last week to prepare for our journey.

During my quiet time today I listed all the things that give me fear. I skipped lines in between them (unfortunately there were more than one!) and allowed God to speak His truth into these very worldly un-God fears.

He said.....I planned this so TRUST, be creative and use your gifts, be flexible and treasure the experience, My outcomes are so much greater than your expectations so leave yours at home.

So as this week moves forward with errands, planning, packing, squeezing in visits with family and friends, I will make the decision to trust every time fear tries to tag along.

I have found fear will not fit in my suitcase, but trust does just nicely.
Thank you for your support and prayers!

We're going to KENYA!

Hello friends and family! As many of you know, God has opened a door for the four of us to go to Nairobi, Kenya this summer through the Kenya Children’s Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian organization. We will be going with as team of teachers to work with children and teachers at the Kinyago-Dandora Primary and Secondary Schools, located in one of the slums of Nairobi for approximately two weeks in June.

We feel inspired and blessed to be able to serve God in this tangible way. Many Kenyans have limited education and vocational skills, and are only marginally employable, so they end up in slums like Kinyago-Dandora. There is no money for proper housing, nutrition, health care or school fees. As a result, many children are forced to work long hours at hard, even dangerous jobs to help provide food for their families.

Our mission is to partner with the African professionals who work with these children at Kinyago-Dandora School as they impart faith-based principles to the children during the most important time in their youth in order to equip them to return to their communities to serve as change agents in every sector of society. We will be doing this by engaging the students and teachers at Kinyago-Dandora School in various classroom lessons and activities and equipping the teachers with the knowledge they need to be effective and powerful educators while sharing our hearts and the love of Jesus Christ with “the poorest of the poor.”

We feel so blessed by the outpouring of support and generosity from those that surround us. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we embark on this journey. We pray for pure, humbled hearts that are openly able to serve our Savior, Jesus Christ.

During our time there, we hope to build relationships, provide valuable teaching tools to the teachers, spread the love of Jesus Christ and learn about the unique Kenyan culture. As our trip nears, we are continuing to build a support team of people that would be willing to pray for our team. We all believe that spiritual warfare is real, and that prayer is a very powerful thing. We need prayer for wisdom as we seek to meet people's needs in another culture, and we also need prayer for safety and travel.

Thank you for all of your donations, thoughts and prayers! We look forward to sharing all of the blessings and memories from this trip through this blog and upon our return!

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
